Disclaimer : stuff I already mentioned. I just wanted it in all one simple package.
So many things happened in the last few days, My life has been so full of things to do and friends to see that it feels like I had never more than one hour doing nothing slumped in the living room. Time warped around me in the exact same way that during end of semesters exam you stress out so much that when the semester is finally over, you suddenly realized that it’s only been 4 days since the last time you opened the television and not a complete year. That is exactly how I feel, like I spent a full two weeks when only 6 days passed.
It all started last Wednesday when I got up and started a major room cleaning with the much needed help of Debbie and Lorien. With their help I managed to throw away/recycle/give away what feels to be half of my stuff. We even took off the ugly shelves and the bedside table I had since I was 8 years old. I went through my clothes and gave away almost half and finally gave up ever rereading notes from high school classes like physics and english litt. Then we moved my furniture around so it would fit differently (not a small feat when the bedroom has 4 doors, it’s very hard to find any way to fit a double bed and still be able to open all of the doors) and I prepared a neato duck confit supper to thank Lorien.
Thursday morning I went to work until noon and called my auntie to ask if she was free to help me so I could dump bags of stuff at Jeunesse au Soleil. I had finally decided to let my adored and much loved Coco the Fifth ( or Sixth?), my wonderfull monkey, go on through life without me and go bright up the life of another child. But my aunt saw it and picked it for her grandson. It feels really cool to know that Coco will stay in the family. Then we went to buy knitting needles at Effiloché because of my evil couch who ate 3 in the last month. My aunt was driving a new car, an automatic, and I think we stalled at least 8 times while driving to get out of the really tight parking spot. We then went to Home Depot so I could get another gallon of fake venetian plaster paint to finish the two white walls of my bedroom. We had a blast and decided that we’ll have time to go to Ikea during the summer when she gets more used to the car. When I got home I only had around an hour to write the last post about which bookcase I should get before Debbie messaged me asking me if I felt like taking a long walk to get some Ben & Jerry’s with a couple other friends. I said yes and we had a really good time with the perfect weather and with the new cinnamon bun flavour. Mmmm.
Friday was very simple : I got up early thanks to a truck that made noise in the backstreet, I ate breakfast and I started painting. I painted until my arms got tired and continued some more. I painted until I was starving. I sat down to make dinner. I relaxed for an hour total and went back to painting the two walls of my room until I was starving again, made supper, relaxed a little and went to bed. It was exhausting but very relaxing at the same time, it was so good to fall asleep completly exhausted after a day of physical work and not a day of stressing studies for University.
Saturday was splendid, I got up and finished the second coat in the morning before going to visit the Botanical Garden with my brother and his family to see the very cool free butterflies exposition. I still can’t believe he had never seen it before, the botanical garden is such a fantastic place to go! We walked around, went to see the insects and listened to my nephew whine about how hungry he was about 10 000 times total, so we went to eat some yummy delicious fantastic indian food (Jean-Talon, corner Birnam) all together before going back home where I waited the arrival of Judith and Pascal before going to a very cool bar in the old montréal. It was a fantastic evening for many reasons including 1) fantastic dancing on tables 2) cheap drinkable beers 2) cute guy who winked and smiled 3) talking with judith about her bf and being so grateful that she’s not blonde or blind 4) laughing my ass off at Mike’s 18 years old girlfriend who danced like a prostitute in heat. ( and later complained that guys look at her like she’s an object and have dares about who will rubs themselves against her the most… it’s very simple, just don’t wear an 15 cm wide skirt with high heels and a push up bra and dance like you’re having intercourse with all male in a radius of 3 meters )All in all, I have to go back there again!
Sunday was spent sanding down my fantastic fake venitian plaster the way the instructions say and putting all my room back in order. That is when I realized for the first time that one of the door doesn’t open all the way. Meh. I’ll fix that this summer. I cleaned the whole house, I got on my knees to mop and I even used the vacuum! *gasp* and I spent a very nice evening at the Hurley’s pub for the Storytelling Night and damn, I also have to go there again! Because it seems my understanding of spoken English with a strong Irish accent is not up to par, I need practice.
Now as I’m finally finishing to write this, I only have a few hours before my bus leaves to take me to New York! Shoe shopping, yarn shopping, museums, galleries and broadway is where you will find me, and maybe dancing in a bar if me and Jud ever feel like taking on our promise of last saturday night. I’ll be back at 5am monday, with just enough time to sleep a little before my Italian class starts at around noon (I think)…

It’s official. I’ve been asked to make a porn website at work.
No, seriously.
Life is SO awesome sometimes, I can’t wait to get started on the endless pop-ups. This has to be the best thing I’ve been asked to do so far.

Technically, I’m not finished with Price and Prejudice yet but I’m sure I’ve seen enough to make fun of it. Because, yes, I find the story really ridiculous. I know it’s an uber-classic and everything, but here I know my friend Bianca will never read so I can say what I think without fear of being dismembered, tortured and disherited. There must have been a huge shortage of cute british cuties for a whole era of women to get all hot and bothered just thinking about Mr Darcy and his cold charming English ways. He doesn’t reach the knee of Michael Sapieha’s Capitaine Chase or even the ankle of Alan Rickman’s Col. Christopher Brandon. Poor Mr. Darcy has no depth at all, he just plays an insufferable emo kid in the wrong century. I’m sure he would have had a myspace page if the internet existed in Victorian England. Thankfully for my sanity, the teleserie itself is not half that bad. The mother of the 5 daughters is hilarious and had me and my mom choking out water a couple of times, and most of the secondary characters are brilliantly played. I even have a rather soft spot for the 2nd heroine who makes me cry inside whenever I see how desolate but stoic she is. So far, I listened to the first 3 episodes out of 6, I got through the first demand in marriage and seeing how that one went through, it was enjoyable even though I could’t make out all they were saying (Old English = I need subs, but the dvd has none… woe be upon me!) More criticism whenever I watch the second part!
(litterally weeks later)
I finally watched the second half of the miniserie and… I’m still so-so about it. First, Elizabeth falls in love with Mr Darcy when she sees his Mansion! Talk about material girl, honestly. And Secondly, after the much overhyped event of Mr Darcy in a wet shirt, I expected to see something more interesting than a wet dog look. So, although it was inteligent and well acted, I actually prefer the Bollywood version. And as for Mr Darcy, if I ever feel like watching a movie with sexy men in it, I will definitly skip it in favour of 300, which was visually wonderful even if the story was so predictable, obvious and shallow. I can’t help it, it’s got David Wenham in it which is almost as good as Christian Bale.

After hours of hard work fighting dust dragons (I kid you not) that were lurking under my bed, defeating pounds of notes from high school ( I gave up ever understanding what vectors really are ) and facing the trials of separating myself from my dearest, most adored stuffed animal Coco the Monkey… I can finally declare that my room is fuzz-free and ready to face this new era where I am no longer a teenager. But I think there is more antiquity to be shed from my room if that is to work, while rearranging my furniture I realised just how ugly one of my bookcase is. It’s black metal with fake brown wood and I thnk it dates back from the 60s when my dad was at University.
I talked with Judith on the phone who convinced me to go shopping at IKEA for a new one. They aren’t that expensive and some of them actually look ok, even if I’m very picky about furniture. Right now I’m torn between this on or this one. I really like the brownish warm colour of the one with a plank at the back, but I like a lot the shape of the very dark-almost-black one. One is also $15 more… I guess I will have to see when I go to the store, I’m always way too impulsive. I’ll be sure to bring 150$ cash to be sure not to buy anything else.
And now I can really call myself a major league procrastinater : I’m talking with Paul as I was writing and he made me realise that I painted the two ochre walls in my bedroom when he was there… 3 years ago. I bought a can of paint to finish the two other walls today. It will have taken me 3 years to painat my bedroom walls, and that’s if I actually paint them before the end of the summer.
Great.
