My class was canceled today and I was bored

Monday, March 10th, 2008

Just like last time, I caved in to instinct and yes, you guessed it, cut my hair again. I started with one side, did the other side at sortof the same length and then tried for the back to be matchymatchy… Thank god my hair is flying all over, even if I’d used a ruler it would still look uneven.

So here is the new me!

All normalMwahahah

back from Cuba and on to Scotland

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

I got back on the 23rd from a full week of sunlight and waves, I don’t know how to describe it. It was perfect. I was with my family without the nitty-gritty of everyday life - between the lines : my mom didn’t bug me about the laundry or the state of my bedroom floor. It even took me a couple of days to get the roll of the sea out of my body, I kept wavering in the air standing up… too bad it’s already gone. I would love to keep doing it still.

Then on tuesday I had to go to this meeting for a class and t ended up being much more interesting than just a random gallery that we visit : it was a great conference on the future of IT. Unfortunatly half of the guest speakers were boring, but the other galf clearly made up for it. Not to mention the excellent free food, the free usb-key and the official looking canvas bag that made me feel like such a big shot. (free conference > 900$ conference is goooooood) Considering that I am graduating this semester and that when I get back after 3 months of travel I will dry on money and planning to move out, I was understandably a little anxious about finding a decent enough job to pay rent + laptop. But the dinner theme was how the IT world will have to fight to get to us, so it helps a lot. Thanks Debbie for trying to keep your ear open for me during the summer too :) I promise to send tons of postcards!

Speaking of trip, the second section has been decided saturday when judith spent the afternoon and evening over. Scotland leg of trip is… Glasgow -> Skye -> Harris -> Lewis -> Wick -> Orkneys -> Some Glen -> Dufftown -> Edinbourg ->Worksop -> London and then home… and I’m really thrilled that we’ll be spending time in the Outer Hebrides, I found a flickr image set and it looks fantastic and different!

I can’t wait.

Monsters under your beds

Thursday, February 14th, 2008

For a project in my Digital Nomad class, I’m doing a project to explore the misused space of the “under the bed” and if anyone has stories and/or memories of monsters in the bedroom as children it would be really neat if you could write a comment or email me.

So far it’s very vague but I would like to create a bed that has sound, light and pressure sensors so that the bed can use the sleeper’s behaviour to create original shadows, creaky noises and footsteps every night. It would reclaim the mythos of the nightly fears for us adults who have grown past it, and give some shine back to the very boring and dusty space that is under your bed. (well mine is anyway)

What should my bag say?

bag - bubblesbag - students

A few weeks ago the fine art student alliance created a really nifty almost-fabric-nearly-plastic bags that every store sells for a dollar instead of using plastic bags and they are giving them for free for every student in the departement. I got mine and it has a really special drawing on one side with an animal over another. They also each have word bubbles that I can write whatever I want in. I was tempted to have them say “I am a banana!” and “my anus is bleeding” in honour of Don Hertzfeldt’s rejected cartoons (check out the youtube video)…

But now I’m not too sure if I want to walk around with that written on my bag. Anyone has any ideas that won’t get me arrested?

What will I be doing next year?

Wednesday, November 21st, 2007

Yesterday I had an apppointement with a teacher for a class, to explain what my final project for her class will be like. Since it’s a class that is focused about helping students clear up their practice and their goals for the future, we discussed a little my dreamjob among other things. She said something along the lines that my way of thinking would fit very well with the vision of European design firms. I was a little curious by then, and asked how she thought my mind worked, turns out she’s very very good because even though I’ve only known her since the beggining of this semester she was right on. How I think in images and concepts and have a lot of trouble with words.

It just feels a little weird because even since Debbie’s known I am going to Europe for the summer, she says I should try to find a job over there. Yochannah seems to agree too, I even dreamed one day how cool it would be if we both opened up our own little web design company together :) And now my teacher confirms it, and suggests I take my portfolio with me on my trip…

But… work visas… and that whole Montréal is already the center of the industry I want to work with… and leaving friends behind.
