Dumbledore gay?

Saturday, October 20th, 2007

I just read the news on Mugglenet, and I must say I’m very surprised. Nowhere in the text have I ever felt it could have been understood through the lines that the headmaster was homosexual. I suppose I will have to read it all over again.

I’m also a little weirded out by all the slash fanfics out there. Some of them might actually be true now! I’m also worried of the consequences on the book this will bring, there are enough people bashing the series on grounds of witchcraft to add homophobia or pedophilia into it.

and is it just me or does anyone else have the feeling this smells like publicity stunt?

EDIT : I just read this article dealing on the subject in the Time Magazine and it,s pretty much what I thought, only more intelligently written *s*

Finite Incantatem

Note : added pictures :)

I still have trouble imagining that the story really is over. That there won’t be an eight book. I’m glad though that I was with friends reading it, even though I wish I could have the patience to wait for them at every chapter like I had previously planned but… I must say I was very much surprised when I realized that I was reading more than twice as fast as them. Bianca clocked me at 30something seconds a page near the end but that seems presposterous. She must have dozed off while counting and lost track.

We had such a blast waiting in line for the book. Debbie was a little disapointed I think that we didn’t end up the first in line, but I think we were something around 7th so I’m not complaining. Especially when we learned later that night that the bookstore had its doors closed because they had reached the maximum amount of people they were allowed. When we left the shop with our books at 12:10am, there were people waiting in line outside on the streets, going almost a complete block in both directions and I have no idea how many people inside but the line zig-zagged through every single alley. It was a really neat evening and being in costume I think made it that much more fun, I acted like a 8 years old and I’m pretty sure I will remember the evening better because of it. Unfortunatly I didn’t win the iPod prize for costumes, I blame Debbie who didn’t want to dance and look ridiculous in front of Voldy and Percy ;) But then I suppose when Bellatrix dances in front of Voldy, it isn’t something she does in public.

As for the book, without any spoilers, I really liked reading it but now that it’s over and I think back on it I’m not a hundred percent convinced that some of the storylines were really necessary, I felt some only weighted down the plot. Also there was a little too much Deus Ex Machina for my taste and I still don’t understand, even after having read it three times now, the big ending. It makes me feel retarded. I don’t think I am retarded. I think her explaination is simply not an explanation. It feels like “I tell you so, so it works” and that disapointed me. Yet no matter how harsh and criticizing I can sound right now, I still enjoyed it a lot. The atmosphere was wonderfull and I know I will read it again and again. I just have this really weird feeling that the real J.K. Rowling died without having finished the manuscript and someone else finished it off.

It feels alien to me.

Harry Pottermania

Thursday, July 19th, 2007

Find out your Harry Potter personality at LiquidGeneration!

To start up my HPmania I thought I would also participate in the test Patrick did. It’s really weird how overwhelmed with everything Potter right now. I feel rather free to mention it because I’m pretty sure my friend Bianca doesn’t read this…

section deleted because judith called me to let me know I emailed bianca with a link on this site. Omg I hope she didn’t see anything

I really loved the movie… I think. I’ve seen it twice now, once in 3D IMAX and once normal, and although really like it I’m not completly convinced it was great. I think I’m just too disapointed with the way the death of Sirius was treated, it was really anti-climatic. On the other hand, I’m thrilled we have confirmation that Bellatrix killed Sirius with an AV and he then flew into the veil. That was how I had always interpreted the jet of green light that Bellatrix throws at Sirius in the book, but looking at the way people are discussing that online I seem to have been the only one to think so.

Now friday night I’m going to the bookstore at around 6pm with Debbie, dressed up, and more friends will come and join us along with my brother and a friend of his. I hope it will be a neat evening and that nothing untowards (aka spoiler demons) will happen. I’m also looking forward to seeing the local lizard association, if they come again like they did 2 years ago. I’m looking forward to it mainly because Judith is terrified of snakes and she will be there :) Hehehe. After we get our copies I’m going to spend the night with 3 friends and read a little before going to bed. I wish so much that I was back in Scotland like at the release of Order of the Phoenix and once again wage a speed reading war with Ulrica, it was really my favourite release so far. Because I read so much faster than my less bilingual friends I have set up a plan for the night : We’ll all read the first chapter, wait until everyone’s finished and then discuss it a little before starting the next chapter… lather, rinse, repeat… until they get sick of it and I am out of patience or until it gets to 3:30am. We have to sleep some because the next day we’re going to help to cord wood and that requires energy!

In the meantime… I am not listening to anything Debbie says since she msm me on my cell this morning that she had already read the whole book on the internet *sigh* and I just finished a “Trust Snape” armband while wondering if I will wear it with pride after having read the book or burn it in anger if he turns up to be a badass…

Only time will tell!

Superlogicalious

Thursday, May 31st, 2007

Last tuesday when my religion class was canceled I went to browse around at the bookstore on my way home and bought a couple of nifties. I searched for the latest Robin Hobb and Juliet Marillier but both authors’ sections was empty as if a herd of fans had came in before me… I continued looking around searching for a novel I had seen before : The Confessions of an ugly step-sister and eventually I got it. Then I made my way to the knitting & cafts section of the bookstore (I am only human!) and there I saw a really cool jeans cutting booklet that I just *had* to get for Debbie even though her birthday is in 8 months.

Tangeant. It’s all good to be against the idea of commercialism crass during christmas but I like giving gifts damnit! It isn’t a tradition that should be lost just because commercialism has taken over it. Let’s not throw the baby out with the bath water. End of tangeant.

In the knitting section I saw the latest book by the Yarn Harlot whose blog I read daily and I got it for myself but when I read it through I was not as impressed as with her first book and since I had re-activated my membership card they said I should carry the proof of purchase in case the card wasn’t properly re-magnetized. So I still had the coupon. I could return it. Which I did. I felt so “Badddddddddddddd to the bone” at the moment but otoh, I walked out happily with a copy of “Charmed Knits” which has some totally cool patterns of Hermione elf hats, Dobbie socks, Weasley sweaters and so much more… including a bag that looks totally awesome!! I just haven’t figured out what it has to do with Harry Potterness, but who cares? It looks hot and I want it. It also includes two patterns I already paid for but now I have them in book goodness format. So I’m very satisfied :D

Mentioning smileys, I have a definite crush on the new googleTalk ones. They are so adorable! They make me forget that today I am trying to go give blood again. I hope I manage to do it this time, no feeling faint.

4am now

Friday, March 30th, 2007

I just noticed that it’s now almost 4 in the morning. It’s really surprising for me to stay up this late, I usually never stay awake no  matter how much I try to stay up and finish a project. Once I decide that I can’t finish it on time, I tell himself it’s better to get some sleep because it will be late anyway.

I’ve just started writing my introduction. Normally that would be alarming but I usually write it once I’m almost done with the bulk of the text, to be sure that my introduction will be still relevant even if I change my outlook on the subject. I *think* what I’ve written is decent, but doubts are starting to gnaw at my stomach  (unless that’s just bad digestion from lack of sleep) because I will have very little time to do a real reread before printing this out.

Wow, I still can’t believe I only had one yawn of the whole night at around midnight. Hop! a sip of orange juice and I was back on track. I suppose it’s a good thing I went to bed early last night when I realized that the electricity wouldn’t be coming back.

Big finger crossing hoping that this research will be enough to pass FFAR even if I didn’t do the second essay.  Big fingers crossing that my Maya critique will go well even though I’m not very far into it and have little to show so far. I suppose that will help other people give lots of suggestions since there is so much left to do.

Note : listening to Smoochy Smoochy Pukey Pukey right now. It has the best lyrics ever. “Hello Ron, you don’t look so good this morning. You’ve got something stuck to your face, it looks like it sucks, what could it be, is it a leech? Is it the giant squid? Because it’s wrapped around pretty tight. Oh Great.  It’s a girl.”

Second note :  I took a break earlier and browsed blogs. I saw a link to a sock pattern and I caved in. I spent 80$ in the middle of a research but I’m not regreting it. Have you see the terrific cables and details along the calf line? I need to get a pair of shoes to fit those perfectly!
