After months of having signed on to be on the invitation waiting list for Ravelry.com… I finally got an email telling me how to sign in! Zomg1! The place is so well designed and easy to use and so damn useful! I feel like I’ve been waiting for someone to invent something like this for ages (well, 3 years) I’ve been reading so much good about it in other people’s blog I can’t believe I will be part of it too :D

With all the information regarding patterns, yarns, designers, books all stored together and constantly linked together I can search for yarn that I own and see what other people have done with it, what people think of it. If I find a pattern, I can see how others made it, what errors they found, how they changed it. I can look at projects people are super happy with, projects that they find horrible and see what went wrong (and not do the same mistake) It feels like I will no longer do one google search to find an information necessary to make a second and third goggle search until I find what I’m looking for. All the while with pictures associated!

Once again, I wish I had a digital camera so I could get started taking a picture of my stash, of my WIPs (work in progress), my FOs (finished objects) and all my queue of things I would like to do next. So whoever has received something I made, could you please take a photo and send it over? I guess you could say I’m trying to cover my knitting portfolio archives. I know most of the best stuff I gave away and I’d like to see how it all started (except the horrid acrylic monstrosities, no need to acknowledge those… ever. You have my permission to burn it out of existence)

So… nothing’s happening much here eh?

Tuesday, July 17th, 2007

I’ve known for a while that I’ve been silent but I thought I would eventually finish the post I’ve been thinking for a while (on the subject of babies, creepy, I know) but it seems it’s really not going anywhere out of my head, or rather there are now so m any things I feel like I should be writing about that I find no way to make it all fit together. The only common denominator is that I thought about all of this, but really, that just confirms how different and spontaneous and ridiculous things I can think about at the same time. I’ve been trying to convince myself to just get to it and write and I will do it! I swear! but first, I just fell in love 45 seconds ago and had to share it. I can’t wait until I write 4 pages about babies and another 8 pages about the Harry Potter Insanity that is cripping my life. I must share the most beautiful Fair Isle Sweater Known To Humankind. and no I’m not exgerating more than usual !

Superlogicalious

Thursday, May 31st, 2007

Last tuesday when my religion class was canceled I went to browse around at the bookstore on my way home and bought a couple of nifties. I searched for the latest Robin Hobb and Juliet Marillier but both authors’ sections was empty as if a herd of fans had came in before me… I continued looking around searching for a novel I had seen before : The Confessions of an ugly step-sister and eventually I got it. Then I made my way to the knitting & cafts section of the bookstore (I am only human!) and there I saw a really cool jeans cutting booklet that I just *had* to get for Debbie even though her birthday is in 8 months.

Tangeant. It’s all good to be against the idea of commercialism crass during christmas but I like giving gifts damnit! It isn’t a tradition that should be lost just because commercialism has taken over it. Let’s not throw the baby out with the bath water. End of tangeant.

In the knitting section I saw the latest book by the Yarn Harlot whose blog I read daily and I got it for myself but when I read it through I was not as impressed as with her first book and since I had re-activated my membership card they said I should carry the proof of purchase in case the card wasn’t properly re-magnetized. So I still had the coupon. I could return it. Which I did. I felt so “Badddddddddddddd to the bone” at the moment but otoh, I walked out happily with a copy of “Charmed Knits” which has some totally cool patterns of Hermione elf hats, Dobbie socks, Weasley sweaters and so much more… including a bag that looks totally awesome!! I just haven’t figured out what it has to do with Harry Potterness, but who cares? It looks hot and I want it. It also includes two patterns I already paid for but now I have them in book goodness format. So I’m very satisfied :D

Mentioning smileys, I have a definite crush on the new googleTalk ones. They are so adorable! They make me forget that today I am trying to go give blood again. I hope I manage to do it this time, no feeling faint.

Overwhelmed

Wednesday, April 25th, 2007

Disclaimer : stuff I already mentioned. I just wanted it in all one simple package.

So many things happened in the last few days, My life has been so full of things to do and friends to see that it feels like I had never more than one hour doing nothing slumped in the living room. Time warped around me in the exact same way that during end of semesters exam you stress out so much that when the semester is finally over, you suddenly realized that it’s only been 4 days since the last time you opened the television and not a complete year. That is exactly how I feel, like I spent a full two weeks when only 6 days passed.

It all started last Wednesday when I got up and started a major room cleaning with the much needed help of Debbie and Lorien. With their help I managed to throw away/recycle/give away what feels to be half of my stuff. We even took off the ugly shelves and the bedside table I had since I was 8 years old. I went through my clothes and gave away almost half and finally gave up ever rereading notes from high school classes like physics and english litt. Then we moved my furniture around so it would fit differently (not a small feat when the bedroom has 4 doors, it’s very hard to find any way to fit a double bed and still be able to open all of the doors) and I prepared a neato duck confit supper to thank Lorien.

Thursday morning I went to work until noon and called my auntie to ask if she was free to help me so I could dump bags of stuff at Jeunesse au Soleil. I had finally decided to let my adored and much loved Coco the Fifth ( or Sixth?), my wonderfull monkey, go on through life without me and go bright up the life of another child. But my aunt saw it and picked it for her grandson. It feels really cool to know that Coco will stay in the family. Then we went to buy knitting needles at Effiloché because of my evil couch who ate 3 in the last month. My aunt was driving a new car, an automatic, and I think we stalled at least 8 times while driving to get out of the really tight parking spot. We then went to Home Depot so I could get another gallon of fake venetian plaster paint to finish the two white walls of my bedroom. We had a blast and decided that we’ll have time to go to Ikea during the summer when she gets more used to the car. When I got home I only had around an hour to write the last post about which bookcase I should get before Debbie messaged me asking me if I felt like taking a long walk to get some Ben & Jerry’s with a couple other friends. I said yes and we had a really good time with the perfect weather and with the new cinnamon bun flavour. Mmmm.

Friday was very simple : I got up early thanks to a truck that made noise in the backstreet, I ate breakfast and I started painting. I painted until my arms got tired and continued some more. I painted until I was starving. I sat down to make dinner. I relaxed for an hour total and went back to painting the two walls of my room until I was starving again, made supper, relaxed a little and went to bed. It was exhausting but very relaxing at the same time, it was so good to fall asleep completly exhausted after a day of physical work and not a day of stressing studies for University.

Saturday was splendid, I got up and finished the second coat in the morning before going to visit the Botanical Garden with my brother and his family to see the very cool free butterflies exposition. I still can’t believe he had never seen it before, the botanical garden is such a fantastic place to go! We walked around, went to see the insects and listened to my nephew whine about how hungry he was about 10 000 times total, so we went to eat some yummy delicious fantastic indian food (Jean-Talon, corner Birnam) all together before going back home where I waited the arrival of Judith and Pascal before going to a very cool bar in the old montréal. It was a fantastic evening for many reasons including 1) fantastic dancing on tables 2) cheap drinkable beers 2) cute guy who winked and smiled 3) talking with judith about her bf and being so grateful that she’s not blonde or blind 4) laughing my ass off at Mike’s 18 years old girlfriend who danced like a prostitute in heat. ( and later complained that guys look at her like she’s an object and have dares about who will rubs themselves against her the most… it’s very simple, just don’t wear an 15 cm wide skirt with high heels and a push up bra and dance like you’re having intercourse with all male in a radius of 3 meters )All in all, I have to go back there again!

Sunday was spent sanding down my fantastic fake venitian plaster the way the instructions say and putting all my room back in order. That is when I realized for the first time that one of the door doesn’t open all the way. Meh. I’ll fix that this summer. I cleaned the whole house, I got on my knees to mop and I even used the vacuum! *gasp* and I spent a very nice evening at the Hurley’s pub for the Storytelling Night and damn, I also have to go there again! Because it seems my understanding of spoken English with a strong Irish accent is not up to par, I need practice.

Now as I’m finally finishing to write this, I only have a few hours before my bus leaves to take me to New York! Shoe shopping, yarn shopping, museums, galleries and broadway is where you will find me, and maybe dancing in a bar if me and Jud ever feel like taking on our promise of last saturday night. I’ll be back at 5am monday, with just enough time to sleep a little before my Italian class starts at around noon (I think)…

A pathetic weekend

Monday, April 2nd, 2007

After having survived my horrible research paper and having had no sleep at all for 40 hours and a half, Heaven known as weekend finally came. My nefarious plan has been to spent as many hours as possible playing video games to catch up on the hours I had missed due to the end of semester, and although the weather tried to change my mind by convincing me going outside would be fantastic, I held strong.

I ended up getting quite a little farther in Final Fantasy XII, I killed a big evil monster in the end, even if he decimated my party 5 times. I tried to finally try DIablo 2 online… but my *coughhackcough* copy won’t let me connect to the server. Bummer. I tried to play offline but was bored within 4 minutes so maybe it isn’t such a loss. I also finally finished up the fantastic Embossed Leaf Socks (wearing them right now), started again the toe-socks my nephew has asked for so they actually fit him and continued on a pair of latvian mittens for whoever has tiny hands by the time they’re finished. At the rate that I am working on those, it might actually be my own daughter. Ugh. The thought itself scares me.

Tommorow I’m going to the student travel agent with Judith and we are buying our trip to New York! Long live shopping :D

And finally, if this is to be true. wow. like. omg.
