Dentist vs Hockey

Monday, April 21st, 2008

I had an appointement to the dentist today, some last minute fix before I leave and when I got there I was very pleasantly surprised to see that the television screen was showing the first part of the Boston-Montreal hockey game. Squee!

It just blew me away that as I was lying there, having my seals redone, I could more or less watchhear the game and whenever there was a goal the dentist would let me watch the replay! and he and the technician would discuss the game and their bets and what tie the coach was wearing and who they knew who had tickets tonight. Fortunatly, I never felt like I was going to loose a tooth if a really spectacular goal was called on the screen.

Now I got home, and I can hear the honking and screaming and parading of the people in the streets on Park. It reminds me of when the Greek won the soccer cup, and when the French won the soccer cup… and here’s to hoping I will be in the country that wins this year’s soccer cup this summer. :) That would be fantastic

Hockey

Monday, March 24th, 2008

Yes, hockey. Hitting the puck around with a stick on ice skates hockey. You read well. Not only did I happen to watch the game against Boston the other night (because it had lots of good passes)… but I also watched the following game until the end and cheered and whimpered in all the good moments.

And now tonight’s is against Ottawa and not only am I watching it, I watched the pre-game show and I’m looking forward to it!

Go Habs Go!

And there is a goal! while I’m writing! Awesome :D

An English-speaking girl in my class…

Sunday, March 9th, 2008

.. and I were talking about French and English in Montreal, and how people outside of the island are nowhere near bilingual. She told me that she sort of resents her parents for having sent her to English school as a child, that now she will always have a horrible accent in French, while the French speaking people have a really good English accent, if at all. (that never gets old -being told I am accentless, I mean- it’s a surprising compliment each time) Anyway, it was really fascinating to hear about the other side of the language debate.

I often hear ranting about the English and how “back then things were so different” and how we have to fight so the English speakers learn French and integrate in the society. But I always argue with my dad that things have changed. That the people I see around in University are bilingual and if they aren’t they really wish they were. But to hear firsthand about the other side was very enlightening.

It really put a smile on my face. I’m proud to be part of a nation with multiple cultures that try to make it work. I love my city.

I can find old friends without facebook thankyouverymuch

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

…althought it does help if they still visit the same sites as before. It feels realy fantastic that thanks to ShadowMoon and her taunting on the homepage of Pages of Legends, people have actually startinghanging out there again and since the last few evenings it’s been really great catching up with old friends. Old because we’re not longer 16-17 years-old obviously…

Well last night Susan came back and turns out she’s studying in Ottawa so I’ve found an excuse to go visit the National Capital! Hopefully the bus isn’t too costly…

yay-arg!

Also, last night I talked for almost 2 hours on the phone (thanks Judith for having wasted hours of your time) and I said that even though I had the worst case of split ends since the history of mankind, I wasn’t cutting my hair since it would leave more liberty to the hairstylist whenif I ever get it cut.

What did I do two hours after having hung up the phone? Yup. I chopped 3 inches in about 5 scissor strokes. Impulsive moi? pfft
